Well it wasn't quite as bad as that, but for a brief time I wondered if I was going to be able to enter the United Kingdom and thought that my adventure was about to come to a screeching halt!
After answering many questions about where I was from, when I was returning, what I was doing, the border agent who said he admired and understood the romance of adventure, let me through the gates!
Hellooooo London!
For this part of my adventure, I decided to stay outside the main core of London and use the very efficient public transportation system to get to and from London. If you ever visit London, save yourself time and money and get one of the many travel cards available, sometimes called the Oyster card. There are several theories on why it is called the Oyster card. My favorite is that with it "the world is your oyster".
I was surprised to discover, as with Paris, how close many of the famous sites are to each other. You can get your bearings in a relatively short period of time if you walk around rather than take the underground.
Even though London is a very expensive place to live, many interesting venues are either free or are under 10 pounds to visit.
Visit the National Gallery and sit and admire famous masterpieces by Cézanne, Michelangeo, and Van Gough for as many times as you wish.....for free.
Go take a walk or sit in one of the many gorgeous manicured parks and let the intoxicating floral smells waft around you....for free.
Watch the colorful spectacle and British pageantry of the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace.....for free.
Climb to the top of The Monument to the Great Fire of London near London Bridge and get a spectacular view of the city and the River Thames....for 4 pounds.
As the saying goes, Keep Calm and Visit London!
